PSVR2 Adapter Brings PC Compatibility
Sony just released a new adapter that will allow PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2) players to connect their headsets to a PC.
The anticipated adapter of PSVR2, priced at $59.99, will open up the world of PC VR gaming to PSVR2 users, significantly expanding their gaming options.
Announced earlier this year, the adapter connects to the PSVR2 headset via its USB-C port, enabling it to run PC VR games. This eliminates the need for a separate PC VR headset like the Valve Index or Meta Quest, making the PSVR2 a more versatile piece of hardware.
However, using the PSVR2 on a PC will require additional equipment. Users will need a compatible DisplayPort cable that supports DisplayPort 1.4 and a VR-ready PC. A Steam account is also necessary to access games through SteamVR.
While this new capability is a significant addition, Sony has noted that some of the PSVR2’s standout features, such as HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, and adaptive triggers, will not be functional on PC. Nevertheless, key features like the 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, passthrough view, and 4K resolution will still be available.
Though PSVR2 had a somewhat challenging first year on the market, this new PC VR support could make the headset more appealing by expanding its game library and making its high price tag easier to justify.
